Pictured is Mildmay’s train station which was located at the west end of the Village on Absalom Street, just past the present day location of Mildmay Lion’s Wilderness Park.     The railroad came to Mildmay in 1872. It was called the Great Western Railroad. George McCallum was the first station agent at Mildmay. In 1903, the Wellington, Grey and Bruce branch of the Grand Trunk took over the rail line. Having obtained the railway station, Mildmay became very progressive and soon took over Balaklava’s position as the main Village of Carrick.   By the late 1930’s the improvement of highways  and motor vehicles made highway transportation more attractive. People began travelling in cars and sending their goods on trucks.
