A peek from the Town Crier’s Friday, September 26, 1975 issue – Not long after this photo was taken at the Mildmay Fall Fair, rain arrived spoiling the usual Fair atmosphere.  Organizers decided to carry on with all the events despite the downpour. The Fall Fair was held at the Mildmay Arena and the ball diamond (now Carnegie Park).     – Town Crier photo

A peek from the Town Crier’s June 9, 1987 issue – Another load of concrete heads to the top of Mildmay’s new elevated water storage tank currently under construction in the west end of the community. Wilhelm Concrete from Stratford, Ontario was in charge of building this stem portion of the mushroom shaped tower. (Workers in the photo were already above the height of the old standpipe at right and actually had one more section of three (the dark portion) to pour before the global section was added to the top. While many residents had been thinking there would be water stored in the stem portion, they were wrong. All 235,000 gallons would be stored in the globe. For comparison sake, the old water tower (at right) held only 80,000 gallons. The general contractor was KWI Construction from Stoney Creek, Ontario and the estimated overall cost of the project was + $460,000.00.     – Town Crier photo

This postcard was brought into the Town Crier office by one of our subscribers. It is a picture of the old Grand Trunk Railway Station that was located just west of the Mildmay Lions Wilderness Park on Absalom Street. Some research indicates the photo may have been taken in the early 1900’s… and the C.T.R. wording should be G.T.R. for Grand Trunk Railway.

A peek from the Town Crier’s Tuesday, July 21, 1987 issue – Nadine Matthews of RR#5 Mildmay accepts the keys of a candy red Corvette (valued at about $40,000.00). The car was the grand prize in a Chatelaine magazine “Famous Beauty Brands” contest. The price of a postage stamp was all it took to win. Nadine’s entry was one of over 900,000 submitted.  She picked up the car at Walkerton Motor Sales. Bill Baillie (left) proprietor of the business presented Nadine with the keys.      – Town Crier photo
