A peek from the Town Crier’s September 24, 2008  issue – Art McDonald of  Teeswater participated in the International Plowing Match in Teeswater as the oldest plowman. Although there wasn’t a category for the ‘oldest’ plowman, Art was given the chance to plow with the VIP’s on opening day. Art, born in 1921, was raised on the 8th Concession of Culross and still owns the family farm. Art wanted to get on the family’s 1950’s vintage Ferguson tractor and pull at the IPM. Although not the original family plow, an original Ferguson plow was found. It was a memorable day for Art!

A peek from the Town Crier’s October 4, 1968  issue – As cider mills become more scarce, the one operated by Lobsinger Bros. Ltd. in Mildmay attracts people for 50 miles around. The press, when under full pressure, has a 100-lb. pressure bearing down on the apple pulp. Photo at left: Steven Missere is opening the chute allowing the chopped apples, now known as apple pulp to fall into special mats. After several of these mats are filled, the carriage of the machine is moved under the press and from then on, it’s all juice. Photo at right: Charlie Lobsinger agreed to fill one of the Scout cider barrels… a task he has most likely done many a time during his life at the shop.

A peek from the Town Crier’s Friday, June 14, 1968  issue – One minute you have a barn and in just a blink of your eye you no longer have a barn… that’s about the way it was here in the Mildmay area on Thursday night, June 11th. Several saw the funnel-like storm as it swept across the area from west to east, leaving in its path thousands upon thousands of dollars damage. Photo on top: This is Simon Breig’s barn which was wiped out by the twister. The owner was just walking into his farm home when part of the roof on a building attached to the house blew off.  Second photo: Edgar Hundt’s barn on the east side of Mildmay was also a total loss.
