This is a postcard dated August 5, 1910 from Chuck Wendt’s collection. The photo was taken on Absalom St. E., Mildmay. The Mildmay Firefighters were practising in front of the horseshoe and carriage makers building. Looking west one sees the Liesemer – Kalbfleisch store and across the street, the Commercial Hotel.

Pictured is the Otter Creek Bluegrass Band, a local group who played a range of styles from classics to contemporary bluegrass favourites. Originally put together for the Bruce County Plowing Match, the group liked it and stayed together. Members included (left to right) Ken Brown (banjo), Bernie Range (mandolin and vocals), Ken Schaefer (fiddle), Barry Randall (guitar and vocals) and Karen Weber (bass and vocals). Karen Weber and Ken Schaefer were also members of other working bands including The Westernaires and The Lighthouse Swing Band. – Photo submitted
