A peek from the Town Crier’s Thursday, June 26, 1980 issue – Mrs. Gladys Klages (centre) who has been the Kindergarten teacher at Mildmay-Carrick Public School since its beginning back in 1966 has announced her retirement. Mrs. Klages had been teaching at S.S.#5 Carrick, but took over the local Kindergarten duties when all country schools were closed and united into one central building. Mrs. Klages was honoured with a “Garden Party” last week with many of her former pupils, friends and fellow teachers returning to wish her best wishes for a happy retirement. Shown in the photo (left to right) is Lloyd Liesemer (who was the School Board Chairman who originally hired Mrs. Klages); Mrs. Ruth Vickers (who will be taking over her duties this Fall); Mrs. Klages; Mrs. Eileen Phillips (who helped organize the Garden Party); and present School Principal, Mr. Wayne Swanton.    – Town Crier photo

A peek from the Town Crier’s May 19, 2010 issue – This photo was an official “Snoopy Snap” that appeared on the paper’s front page.  The information about it read as follows:   A couple of weeks ago Snoopy snapped a photo at Marg and Art Albert’s of a well-built robin nest.  Since then the nest contained four eggs, and hence four baby robins.  Mid-morning on Monday, May 18, Snoopy got this “perfect snap” as Ma Robin brought a huge dew worm for her four eager kids. (It almost looks like they are singing for lunch.)  A timely photo?  Six hours later each left the nest, flapped themselves across the street and were last seen flying up the village street.

A peek from the Town Crier’s May 12, 2010 issue – The first day of fishing for 2010 was Saturday, April 24. This group of young men were anxious to get out and do some serious fishing at the Weiler Pond in Mildmay and apparently they were up and about pretty early in the morning!  The “Backyard Buddies” (left to right) are Jared Liesemer, Brett Schnurr, Curtis Reuber, Max Jones, Jordan Schnurr, Isaac Schefter and Caleb Schnurr. The boys’ effort paid off as they caught almost two dozen trout which made a mighty tasty breakfast for all of them.         – Photo submitted

Here Councillors Eric Parsons (left) and Ron Hibberd (right) pose with their “first time luck”. Missing from the photo was Councillor Terri Reichenbach.     – Town Crier photo
