A peek from the Town Crier’s Thursday, June 26, 1980 issue – Mrs. Gladys Klages (centre) who has been the Kindergarten teacher at Mildmay-Carrick Public School since its beginning back in 1966 has announced her retirement. Mrs. Klages had been teaching at S.S.#5 Carrick, but took over the local Kindergarten duties when all country schools were closed and united into one central building. Mrs. Klages was honoured with a “Garden Party” last week with many of her former pupils, friends and fellow teachers returning to wish her best wishes for a happy retirement. Shown in the photo (left to right) is Lloyd Liesemer (who was the School Board Chairman who originally hired Mrs. Klages); Mrs. Ruth Vickers (who will be taking over her duties this Fall); Mrs. Klages; Mrs. Eileen Phillips (who helped organize the Garden Party); and present School Principal, Mr. Wayne Swanton.    – Town Crier photo
