A peek from the Town Crier files – NOVEMBER 30, 2005 – The South Bruce Tourism Committee organized a “Live Nativity” at the Hanging of the Green in Mildmay. The Nativity was located across from the Mildmay-Carrick Public Library on the Fischer property and proved to be quite a popular place to visit during the night’s festivities. Pictured (left to right) are Angie Diemert, Heather Knoll, Dan Schefter and Don Diemert. The Diemert’s provided the assortment of animals for the Nativity which was a great hit with the children.   – Town Crier photo

A peek from the Town Crier files – NOVEMBER 19, 1965 – Mr. Millet Salter of the architect firm of Salter & Allison, Barrie, Ontario released the above drawing of the proposed new Mildmay-Carrick Central School to be built in Mildmay. The 8 room school, which will have a playroom, is to be built by the contracting firm of M. Landoni and Sons, Fergus, Ontario. Tender price was $259,000. The building will be quite unique in design and has a rustic appearance to it.  Another feature is that it will be heated electrically.

    A peek from the Town Crier files – NOVEMBER 5, 1965 – “I’ll be your Lady Bug” was the  theme set by Barbara Weber (left) at the Children’s Rotary Halloween Party. Barbara failed to get the judges “eye” but her young sister Louise (right) copped first place in the pre-school group. Both are the daughters of Mr. & Mrs. Herb Weber of Mildmay

    Yes, Dennis “Hymie” Schnurr had a huge crop of apples this year at his Mildmay residence, BUT, he also grew some huge, one might even say massive specimens!  He explained that he has two small grafts on the tree about 3-4’ long, and he got 2-3 dozen of these huge “Alexanders” apples from those 2 grafts!  In total, Schnurr has 3 apple trees with about 26 different varieties.  The photo below shows a regular sized apple on the right and one of the huge apples that filled Hymie’s tree.

    Christmas Open House
    Davishill Nursery located at 1258 Hwy 4 (between Walkerton & Hanover) is holding a Christmas Open House on Wed., Nov. 4th and Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6-9 pm. Jeff Davis is pictured as he makes bows in preparation for the event.  There are tons of beautiful Christmas decorations, urns, wreaths, arrangements and so much more!

    A peek from the Town Crier files – October 26, 2005 – Some members of the Mildmay G’Old Dusters Hockey Team and wives were pleasantly surprised to meet TV star  Jerry Seinfeld, who happened to be staying at the same hotel during the weekend of the Toledo Oldtimers Hockey Tournament (apparently Mr. Seinfeld was doing a comedy show in the area).When asked if they could get a picture taken with him, he said “sure!”  When asked if he would like to go and watch one of the Mildmay hockey games, he simply replied “now that would be a joke!” Pictured with Mr. Seinfeld are (left to right) Tim Bross, Jeff Bross, Doug Ditner, Kelly Durrer, Mike Durrer, Simon Huber, Karen Huber, Kathy Ditner, Paula Bross and Sharon Bross

    A peek from the Town Crier files – October 18th, 1995 – On October 10th fifteen young girls became the first official “Sparks” group in Mildmay!  The members are: front (l-r)-  Caitlin Kerr, Brittany Kieffer, Vanessa Seifried, (the group’s Mascot), Megan Bross, Abby Bester, Corrina Arnold. Middle (l-r)- Rita Eckensweiler, Laurel Hoffarth,  Amanda Klein, Kelsey Kraemer, Gillian Fischer, Lauren Steffler, Jessica Bruder, Alicia Kuntz and Breanne Dietrich. The leaders are (back l-r) – Barb Beitz (Crystal), Tiffany Bester (Sparkley) and Darlene Kraemer (Diamond).
