A peek from the Town Crier’s November 6, 1996 issue – It was a get your hands mucky and dig out those seeds kind of evening!  The Optimist Club of Mildmay-Carrick sold guesses on the number of seeds in a 707 lb. pumpkin which was on display at the Bank of Montreal, Mildmay. (The pumpkin was grown by Paul & Doreen Klages and their girls.)  In the top photo, Optimist President Matt Ruetz digs deep into the pumpkin to retrieve some of the seeds. John Cummings and MaryAnne Burgess both guessed the correct number of seeds – 828! They split the $100.00 first prize.  The second prize of $75.00 went to Janet Ruetz with her guess of 830. The $50.00 third prize was won by Lori Ruetz for her guess of 820.  It’s interesting to note that the highest guess was 967,430 and the lowest was 23.  Proceeds from the sales went towards playground equipment for the Mildmay schools.    – Town Crier photo
