July 2015
– The earliest known types of fireworks were used in China two thousand years ago. They consisted of bamboo or paper tubes filled with finely ground charcoal and sulfur. They produced a flash of fire and smoke when ignite but no explosion
-Ontario is helping more seniors stay engaged with their communities by doubling the investment in the Seniors Community Grant Program from $1 million to $2 million.
July 2005
-Mildmay’s 4th Annual “Canada Kite Day” was held, with kite flying behind the Recreation Complex, followed by Canada Day birthday cake and a free public swim and cannonball contest at the Mildmay Carrick Swimming Pool.
-The Clifford Rotary Club staged their 31 Annual Antique Car, Tractor and Small Engine Show, Mr. Weatherman shown down on the event, with the turnout of tractor entries “pull” participants and overall attendance all up.
July 1995
-One of the events at the ‘95 Neustadt Homecoming was a “Wootz Cookoff”. The entry of Dennis Grubb and Alf Wagner captured first place, winning $350.00 as well as $25.00 for “taste” and $25.00 more for “originality”. Over 450 Homecoming celebrants enjoyed the delicious Pork Barbecue.
-The Mildmay Ladies Horseshoe League finally decided on names with the teams being: Brenda’s Benders, Wendy’s Welders, Sheila’s Peelers, Shirley’s Shooters, Donna’s Knockers and Leona’s Lifters.
July 1985
-At a meeting of the Mildmay Carrick Fall Fair Committee members decided after much discussion to make a major change in one of the rules. Exhibitors would now be required to leave their Hall Exhibits on display throughout Saturday and now Sunday.
-Formosa Immaculate Conception School principal Dave Lang was the recipient of the George King Award. The award could only be received once in a teacher’s career with the Bruce Grey Roman Catholic School Board, and was given to a teacher who had given themselves freely and dovoutly to their school, community and parish.
July 1975
-A Formosa Girl Guide, Harriet Opperman daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Opperman, was one of two Guides named from the Beaver Division for the “Guiding On the Move” program. Harriet would be travelling to Prince Edward Island for ten day stay, which among many other things included deep sea fishing, clam digging and meeting with the Premier Alex Campbell.
-The Mildmay Carrick Volunteer Fire Department announced that they voted to donate a sum of $1,500.00 over a three year period to help with the present Arena Renovation Project.
