A peek from the Town Crier’s November 10, 1972 issue – A picnic on a roof? A picnic is usually a lot of fun… but not at this cold time of the year… and usually they are not held on a rooftop. This setting was, as you have probably guessed, was a Halloween prank played on Lloyd Schnurr of Mildmay by some of his “friends”.  – Town Crier photo

This photo was published in the July 29, 1966 issue of the Town Crier. Some 15 farmers staged a tractor demonstration on Highway 9 south of Mildmay. Later in the day the contingent came to the village outskirts and finally paraded once through the main thoroughfare. The demonstration was held in protest over low farm prices, especially for milk. Dairymen were seeking a basic price of $4.00 a hundred-weight for industrial milk. The current prices at that time were $3.25 paid by the processor and a federal government subsidy of 75 cents

A peek from the Town Crier’s September 19, 2012 issue – Pat Weber of Mildmay recently dropped into the Town Crier with these puffballs (in fact he left one with us). Readers no doubt already know that they can’t sit around for too long. They must also be all white inside, any shade of yellow or purple makes them inedible or upsetting.  A search on the internet will give you lots of recipe ideas.   – Town Crier photo
