A peek from the Town Crier files – Friday, July 23, 1976 – The Ayton Agricultural Society won a trophy for this float in Saturday’s Old Boys Reunion Parade in Ayton. The weatherman turned on perfect conditions for the big Normanby weekend celebration highlighted by the Official Opening Ceremonies of their new Arena Complex. –Town Crier photo

A peek from the Town Crier files – Friday, June 25, 1976 – Mildmay-Carrick Minor Hockey Association held their Annual Hockey Banquet & Awards Night and special guest for the event was the Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Daryl Sittler. With renovations in the works for the Mildmay-Carrick Recreation Complex, it seemed like a good time to publish a photo of the old Mildmay Arena and Hall.  It was located at Carnegie Park in the area where the Mildmay-Carrick Medical Clinic now stands.  Thanks to Chuck Wendt for supplying the photo.  (Remember, if you have any old photos you are welcome to submit them for this feature.)

A peek from the Town Crier files – June 21, 2000 – It was certainly a meeting of young and old during the South Bruce Tourism’s Vintage Tractor Tour which was held on Sunday, June 18, 2000. These Carrick Township youngsters, Bobbi Voisin, Tommy Voisin, Tyson Kraemer and Ashley Kraemer were enjoying looking at (and sitting on) the old equipment.  The foursome is pictured on Norman Hohnstein’s 1926 McCormick Deering tractor.  – Photo was taken by J. In 1880, the brick structure shown above was built in Deemerton, ON, consisting of a convent and a school. The School Sisters of Notre Dame were in charge of the school until 1932. In the very late 1950’s or early 1960’s, the convent was demolished, and the school closed in 1970.  The first section on the left behind the fencing was the school, and is still there today.  Thanks to Andy and Candice Huber for submitting the photo!

A peek from the Town Crier files – May 1, 1996 – Seven local firefighters received Long Service Recognition. Certificates were presented by MPP Barb Fisher and each member also received engraved clocks from Carrick Twp. Reeve Bob Caesar and Mildmay Reeve Keith Campbell from the Municipalities. A peek from the Town Crier files – May 6, 1986 – Members of the Mildmay & District Chamber of Commerce chose the perfect night to repaint the decorative lamps along Mildmay’s main street. Vice President Sandy Fedy is seen on the ladder painting the top part of one of the lamps, while Harvey “Jiggs” Liesemer (left) and Lorne Kieffer (right) are busy cleaning the glass. A peek from the Town Crier files – May 6, 1986 –  Ellen Lobsinger (second from left) was the Mildmay C.W.L.’s 1st President when the organization began in 1961. She was also the first members to receive a 25 Year Pin from Bishop Anthony Tonnos of Hamilton. Also taking part in the presentation was the current C.W.L. President  Nora Beitz (left) and Father J. Stapleton, Priest at Sacred Heart Church.  Eighty-eight members received pins on the organization’s 25th Anniversary.
