– The Mildmay and District Lions Club members and guest gathered for a barbecue dinner on Wednesday, June 17th in the Mildmay 55 Plus Room

-Drayton Entertainment celebrates the Green Canadian Song Book with its eagerly anticipated world premiere production of Canadian Legends, on stage July 2nd through July 18th at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.

June 2005

-Belmore held its Homecoming to commemorate 150 years.  Some of the celebration’s events included a parade, beard growing contest and a dance with Eddie and the Edsels.  There were also many exciting baseball games featuring the Australian Under 19 Men’s Softball Team against the Belmore Stringer, Bluewater League Allstars and Harriston Mercurys.

-Mildmay Rotary’s “Second Annual Day in the Park” was held under very hot and sunny skies, with the heat wave cutting the attendance this year.  The day had vendors, musical entertainment,  food and refreshments, horseshoes and a magic show by 14 year old Sam Pearce of Kincardine.

June 1995

-Mildmay celebrated ten years at the Mildmay Rotary Conservation Park with their usual actiivities and a special anniversary Cake.  Special guest was the originator Mrs. Lois Pryse, now of Kitchener, who began the group in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, before growing number moved the gathering to be larger Sacred Heart Parish Hall.  Donna Breig and Chris Yahbee were the only two “original” moms still with the group.

-Len Kuntz was pleasantly surprised at the Mildmay Horticultural Society’s meeting when he was presented with an Environmental Award of Merit from the Ontario Horticultural Association. The award, based on time, talent, and service, was one of only four presented.

June 1985

-The Mildmay Recreation members agreed to continue their program of “fencing” at Mildmay’s Carnegie Park.  Fencing will be installed to prevent pedestrian traffic from using private property.  Work on the tennis courts was also being planned.

-The first election of officers was held for newly formed Formosa District Lioness Club.  Positions filled by acclamation were as follows, President Betty Burrel, Treasurer Irene Rettinger, Secretary Rita Keip, Tail Twister Donna Weiss, and Director Jane Weber and Marie Oberle.  At the time of formations, the club had 12 members.

June 1975

-Thirty guest from W.I. Branches in the District joined with the members of the Clifford Branch on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the third oldest branch in Ontario.  Mrs. Henry Amoneist presided as Mistress of Ceremonies, while Miss Lavonne Ballagh entertained with music, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Douglas.  The president was Mrs. W.A. Wallace

-A three day tour featuring a tour of Kingston, the “Sunset Ceremonial” at Fort Henry, a day at Upper Canada Village, a Thousand Islands cruise, with transportation, two nights accommodation and admission to all sites included, was being offered by Wide World Travel for only $65.00 per person!

May 2015
– Rehearsals are well underway for the first production of the historic 25th Anniversary Season of the Drayton Festival Theatre. From the creators of the hit show, Twist and Shout: The British Invasion, Legends..of Rock n’ Roll will have audiences snapping their fingers and shaking in their seats … this time to the beat of classic songs by rock and roll’s musical legends.
-South Bruce and Brockton at the Formosa HIKE site raised $10,240.00 on Sunday for the Grey Bruce Residential Hospice for Palliative Care. Formosa Hike Coordinator Joan Borho was very pleased with the turnout.

May 2005
-Alfred “Al” Dosman, long time resident and car dealership owner from Mildmay became the Mildmay and District Lion’s Club’s “29th Mildmay Carrick Citizen of the Year”
-Grade 5 students from the two Mildmay schools participated in the Optimist Spelling Bee in Lucknow. Representing Sacred Heart was Nathan Mawhinney, Cole Hoffele and Graeme Donnelly. Mildmay Carrick Public School had Connor Fischer, Kyla Schneider and Nelson Gayman who was the winner of the competition and went on to complete in Mitchell.

May 1995
-Well over 400 people gathered at the K of C Hall located between Mildmay and Walkerton for an Appreciation Dinner honouring Dr. R. J Creighton for 35 years of Caring and Sharing. As well as the sharing of many memories, a highlight of the evening was the presentation of two sets of custom-made golf clubs to Dr. Creighton.
-The Mildmay and District Lions Club staged their annual “250 Lottery” Dance and Final Draw. Lucky winners of $500 each were Mike Schneider and Jim Kieffer, two prizes of $100 went to Rose Marie Heisz and Frank Weishar and free tickets were won by Gib Arnold and Keith and Margie Campbell

May 1985
-Jack Stewart was named as “The Citizen of the Year” for 1984 and was presented with the award during a dinner meeting of the Mildmay and District Lions Club.
-S and S Beta Movie Rentals in Mildmay had the following ad; With Machine..weekdays – three movies $10, Friday – three movies $15 and weekend – six movies $30.00. Without machine..weekdays (for two nights) – $10, Weekend – three movies $10 or seven movies for $20.

May 1975
-The congregation of Immaculate Conception Church in Formosa celebrated the completion of renovations to the church with a special afternoon mass and dedication. Bishop Paul F Reding, Bishop of Hamilton Diocese, was present for the special occasion. The decorating, which was done by Valerio Brothers from London and took over a year to complete, included repainting all the interior, new carpeting, lighting and furnishings.
-A procession from the school building to the church, led by the school band and including the Knights of Columbus, started the program. Many presentations were made, including scrolls of the first president of the local chapter of the Catholic Women’s League, Mrs. Val Weiler and the present president, Mrs. Kay. Schill by Father Frank Dentinger.

John Thompson poses with a copy of the first edition of the Town Crier. As an employee of the Crier, John used the press in the photo to print “low volume and urgently required funeral cards” that were the norm of the day for the community with the passing of citizens.
