photo #1: This postcard was submitted by Margie Bates from Teeswater, along with the following letter. “My grandmother had a collection of over 100 postcards that she and grampa exchanged during their five year engagement when grampa attended university in Illinois, U.S.A. They were married in June 1913 and lived in Mildmay where grampa was the minister of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (presently St. Paul’s United Church) from 1913-1916. My mom was born in Mildmay. I love the postcard that is telling her what a nice place Mildmay is. My grandparents were Rev. Lorenz and Amanda Gross. He grew up at Auburn and she at Benmiller. They lived all over Ontario and eventually retired in Listowel.”
photo #2: The back of the postcard read: Mildmay, May 15, 1913 Dear Amanda, This is a view of main street of our lively village “MIldmay”. This is a pleasant place and a fine spot to live. I am enjoying good health, hoping you are the same. I am yours as ever, Lorenz. (Thank you Margie for sending in this very interesting postcard!
