A peek from the Town Crier’s Thursday, March 25, 1982 issue – Millie Schurter recently celebrated her 100th Birthday. Pictured is Miss Schurter beside one of the early telephone switchboards at her Mildmay store.  The first switchboard had five subscribers, namely  the Bank, Urban Schmidt (butcher), Dr. Huck (veterinarian), Dr. Wilson (medical doctor) and Conrad Liesemer (hardware store), and the list continued to grow. Miss Schurter continued manning the Mildmay switchboard until 2:00 am, September 21, 1958 when South Bruce Municipal Telephone Company switched everything to dial
