A peek from the Town Crier’s March 15, 1974 issue – “Nine Calves From One Cow in One Year?” – Yes, it is possible to get nine calves from one cow in one year… and Ivan Fisher of RR #1 Clifford has proven that with his Full French Charolais cow, “Emy”, shown above with seven of her children. (One other recipient heifer was pre-sold at the Sale of Stars in Toronto and Emy herself is still in calf, making for a total of nine.) A method of getting  multi-births such as this is by a transplant method only introduced to breeders within the past year. A few farmers have been trying the method, Mr. Fisher is the first in this area to accomplish this as these calves were born the last weeks of February. Personnel from the Mildmay Veterinary Clinic were present for five of the births. Since normally one calf per cow per year is the general rule, no doubt we will be hearing and seeing more farmers taking advantage of arranging for multi-births such as occurred on the Fisher Farm.    – Town Crier photo
