September 2015

– Here is some news that the children at your house will find exciting!  The Optimist Club of Mildmay Carrick is sponsoring a couple of inflatable activities this weekend!  One is a 40’ obstacle course and the other one is a bouncy house meant for the younger kids.

-Mildmay Shell recently won a major Customer Service Award from Shell Canada.  The store was one of only a handful from across the country to be recognized  for Exceptional Front line Customer Service.  Mildmay was one of the smallest communities to win the award.

September 2005

-The Mildmay Carrick Optimist Received a “Trillium Grant” towards the overall cost of installing new playground equipment at the Mildmay Carnegie Park (the old ball park location off Absalom Street, East)

-Good news for the local Doctor Recruitment Committee when they learned that they were being classified as being “under serviced” which made it easier for the to attract doctors.

September 1995

-The new ice rates for the Mildmay Carrick Recreation Complex effective January 1, 1996 were set.  Some of the prices per hour included: Curlng $68.00, Sr Broomball $54.00, Minor Hockey $44.00 and Peak Hours to Out of Towners $63.00

-The Township of Carrick had just added a new “Champion” grader and truck to their fleet of equipment.  They added a grader truck and loader the previous year, so were in good shape as upcoming reductions in grants from the government were forthcoming.

September 1985

-The narrow bridge near Lot 24, Concession 8 -9 of Carrick Township located at the bottom of a steep hill had been removed and work was beginning on a new wider, modern replacement.  The new structure would also change the approaches and the actual creek bed.  Traffic for the winter would be reroute around the nearby side roads. The project had been divided into a three phase program that would continue over a three year period.

-Miss Cheryl Horni from Owen Sound was named as the Interim Manager of the Mildmay Branch of the Bank of Montreal. She replaced Mr Stephen Fay who was transferred to Walkerton.

September 1975

-New staff members at Mildmay Carrick Public School included Mrs Eileen Phillips (gr 4) and French teacher Mr. Leonardo Aquilino. Nine new staff members started at Sacred Heart, Mildmay including Miss Patricia Bethune (grade 8) Mr.  William McLelland (grade 7/8), Mr. Robert Kirkland (grade 4/5) Mrs. Jane Krupica (grade 4), sister Joyce Kempel (grade 2), Mrs Una Szymikoska (grade 1), Mt. Paul Strasboug (oral French), Mrs. Florence Lambertus (teacher’s aide) and Mr. Robert Flock (acting principal)

-The Municipal Clerk for the Village of Mildmay had moved into the new quarters at the Mildmay Carrick Community Centre. The office was moved from the main street location (now the drugstore) to a room in the firehall.
