A peek from the Town Crier’s June 9, 1987 issue – Another load of concrete heads to the top of Mildmay’s new elevated water storage tank currently under construction in the west end of the community. Wilhelm Concrete from Stratford, Ontario was in charge of building this stem portion of the mushroom shaped tower. (Workers in the photo were already above the height of the old standpipe at right and actually had one more section of three (the dark portion) to pour before the global section was added to the top. While many residents had been thinking there would be water stored in the stem portion, they were wrong. All 235,000 gallons would be stored in the globe. For comparison sake, the old water tower (at right) held only 80,000 gallons. The general contractor was KWI Construction from Stoney Creek, Ontario and the estimated overall cost of the project was + $460,000.00.     – Town Crier photo
